The Light Side
Throughout the Star Wars trilogies, the Jedi show the audience the light side of the force.
Their tall order is to be “guardians of peace and justice throughout the galaxy.”
It’s always a challenge because the Siths, on the dark side, believe,
"Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me."
Naturally, the dark and light sides are opposites. The light side can be understood from the wise words of Yoda, “A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack.”
Anakin Skywalker, a masterful Jedi, joined the dark side and becomes the infamous Darth Vader, convinced he was doing good for the universe.
However, in “Return of the Jedi,” when Darth Sidious is on the brink of killing Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader steps in at the last moment to save his son’s life, proving there is still good within him.
The great Irish poet and philosopher John O’Donohue wrote, “There is a quiet light that shines in every heart. It draws no attention to itself, though it is always secretly there.”
There is goodness in people that may never leave them.
It may be dormant, quiet, or lying there in secret, but like Darth Vader, it is possible that anyone can return to the light side.
