Scar Tissue That I Wish You Saw
Most of us know Jeff Bezos as the founder and CEO of Amazon, who is the second richest man in the world, and not the man he was.
In 2009, when Amazon purchased Zappos, Bezos comforted the Zappos team with a message.
“When we launched the store, we made a very early mistake. It’s one of my favorite software bugs of all time. We found that customers could order a negative quantity of books and we would credit their credit card with the price. And I assume wait around for them to ship us the books. We fixed that one. We’ve made a lot of mistakes over time.”
He continued, “My whole body is covered in scar tissue.”
Most of the time, we see the Olympians’ gold medals, the billionaires on yachts, and their name on the Forbes list because media covers the successful after they became famous.
The toil and mistakes are hidden in the past.
However, Jeff Bezos was authentic, and his monologue comforts anyone who has made a mistake, reinforcing his mantra at Amazon to continuously improve: “It’s always day one.”
