LinkedIn makes it easy to share that you have a new job.
They want people to share that news because then others consider, “She got a cool new job. Maybe I should look for a new job, too!”
LinkedIn makes a lot of money from its Job Posting business.
But if you are really excited about your new job, maybe it’s worth showing that excitement authentically and not posting the default message that LinkedIn shares, which is not exciting at all.
Millions of people have shared the same exact line, “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position,” with the same graphics.
Of course with AI, LinkedIn could easily allow variability of the messaging or generate different graphics. In some respects, it’s lazy by LinkedIn, particularly because Microsoft owns LinkedIn and Microsoft invested $10bn partnering with ChatGPT.
But it’s good to remember, LinkedIn doesn’t own your career, you do.
