Can I Put You on Hold?
No one likes waiting on hold, particularly with an airline, insurance company, or bank, but waiting on Slack Huddle is a different story.
Nothing may be worse than looping automated statements such as, “Thank you for holding. All of our representatives are currently assisting other customers. Your call is important to us, and we’ll be with you shortly.”
And that poor choice of on-hold music can make you want to hang up!
Some organizations have paid attention to their customers and invested in a call-you-back feature.
Slack, the messaging application, took a different approach.
One of my colleagues posted in Slack, “How many of you hang out for a few mins after a Slack huddle just to hear the smooth wait music?” (Huddle is Slack’s version of FaceTime Audio).
To which colleagues chimed in with the following:
“hahaha can't lie! first time I heard it I was like 💃“
“Ha!! I definitely don’t rush to turn it off! “
“It’s got a whole lore around it.”
As someone who always hangs up immediately, I jokingly responded to my colleague, “Sounds like you need a Spotify subscription!”
Well, it turns out someone uploaded “Slack Huddle Hold Music” to YouTube (close enough to Spotify) and there are sixty thousand views and 80 comments!
One person commented, “They need to release this on Spotify. I’d listen constantly”
Another YouTuber said, “I always stay after everyone else has left since this has been implemented.”
To which numerous people replied with “me too” or “best part of the call usually”.
Finally, someone said, “This calms me down after my meetings. I stay back longer just to listen to this whenever I can.”
I was wrong about the Huddle music, and now I enjoy it, too, particularly the option “Nature Meditation.”
There’s something about being alone for a few moments after a stressful call and hearing “Smooth Jazz” that sends you on your way with more delight in this busy world we live in.
Huddle may not be the most ubiquitous or the advanced calling option (there are no AI features), but it is the most delightful!
It’s simply audio only, provides great music, and comes without any extra slack.
