A Split Tree

There's a tree near my home that from afar seems to be a normal tree, but as you approach it, you see it is split into two.

The center of the tree is completely hollow. An adult human could fit inside of it. It could easily be a portal Harry Potter transports through.

Remarkably, it's still healthy, with leaves flourishing, even though it is merely standing on two split limbs, and hollow on the inside.

Although its torso is apart, I imagine its roots are still connected.

An old resident informed me, that long ago, lightening struck this tree, splitting it in two.

I imagine there are people like this too. They look well, especially from afar, and can hold a normal conversation, but as you get closer you see that their lives are split in two. There's a hollowness on their inside.

Like the tree, they have enough to stand upon, but barely.

A strong wind could knock them over.

But if the roots are deep and strong enough, they can make it through the storm, and begin to grow together again, perhaps just like the tree.
